The Bauhaus in Germany was the most influential modernist art school of the 20th century and operated from 1919 to 1933. Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the last director of Bauhaus, whose famous dictum “less is more” was the epitome of modernism. Bauhaus was a response to the fear that art will lose its importance in society due to the soullessness of manufacturing. Therefore, the Bauhaus school was committed to reunite art and industrial design. While maintaining the element of art, Bauhaus insisted that these designs must always be ready for mass-production. In life, we may find the need to adopt a similar minimalistic philosophy where everything is stripped down to its essential qualities to achieve simplicity. We come to a place of contentment and realization that happiness does not solely depend on the fulfillment of one’s expectations in the tangible.Just like the joy of seeing your child for the first time or the feel of the gentle breeze caressing your cheek, happiness is a feeling. Simplicity is at its best, when happiness and contentment are found apart from our desires and materialistic needs.
